- January 15 to February 15 - Essay Competition on "Women in Jazz" targeting school-aged children. BCL will award winners U.S. Bonds in increments of $100 and $50, and certificates.
- Friday, February 23 - Youth Sing Jazz - school-aged children who play jazz on instruments will audition at Dillard and Ely High Schools. On Wednesday, November 1, the top five (5) groups or individuals will compete at the Main Library's Auditorium, which you have agreed to secure for the hours between 6 and 8 p.m. BCL will award winners U.S. Bonds in increments of $100 and $50, and certificates. We will explore the possibility of awarding a complimentary Master Class from an instructor at a local music school or store. Winners will be invited to all events during Gaiafest2000.
- March 15 and 16 - Workshops with the Women in Jazz at two area schools, with two 45-minute assemblies in the morning and two in the afternoon, for a total of four (4) workshops.
- March 17 - Performing Arts Center - The Millennium Star String Ensemble, a quartet of
two young women and one young man, ages 16 and 17, who play the music of composers like Duke Ellington. In order to provide a means for youth to participate in a greater way in
Gaiafest2001, their performance also will be incorporated into the evening of the competition on
March 1, 2001.
